An administrative division of Toronto, in Ontario, Scarborough is located on the eastern part of the city and a very popular place for new immigrants in Canada to live in, making its population one of the most diverse in all of the Greater Toronto Area, something that has greatly diversified the religious face of the area. While the nickname “Scarberia”—in reference to Scarborough’s far eastern location within Toronto and a supposed lack of recreational areas—has stuck for a while, it is home to many great natural landmarks, such as Rouge Park, the Scarborough Bluffs, and the Toronto Zoo, the biggest in all of Canada, so the reputation is definitely turning!.

While there is no concrete evidence of there being any groups living permanently in the area before the 17th century, the Fenwood Heights archeological site has shown that some nomadic hunters and foragers set up camp there in 8,000 BC.

The zoo is a great experience whether you’re a child or an adult, but few are as great as the 700-acre Toronto Zoo, the largest in Canada and third largest in the whole world. With over 5,000 animals and almost 500 species represented, there are many award-winning exhibits all over the zoo, and you’ll definitely need most of the day (if not more) to fully enjoy this great experience.

The Scarborough Bluffs are located along the Lake Ontario shore, and there are eleven different parks on the 15 km stretch of Bluffs, featuring many hiking trails, beaches, gardens, recreation areas, playgrounds, and more. Of course, the views are absolutely amazing all along the shore, but BE CAREFUL! The Bluffs’ edge is uneven and unstable, so always stay behind the fences during your visit.

One of the parks along the Scarborough Bluffs, aptly named Bluffers Park, is an excellent spot to visit if you want to have a nice picnic with the family, eat at the restaurant on the marina, or have a nice walk while enjoying the scenery of the bluffs. During the summer, it’s common to see weddings and other events taking place at the park.
