Stouffville is actually the primary urban area of Whitchurch-Stouffville, which is the proper municipality it belongs to. Founded in 1804 by Abraham Stouffer—from whom the town gets its name—Stouffville was incorporated in 1877, remaining a village until it was amalgamated with the township of Whitchurch.

As for its pre-European settlement history, it is now known that a large Huron village was located in Stouffville’s current location. Designated as the Mantle Site, it has yielded thousands upon thousands of Huron artifacts, and the location of over 80 longhouses has been discovered.

For those looking to dip their toes in a variety of outdoor activities, there’s Bruce’s Mill Conservation Park, which offers visitors a to engage in bird watching, picnics, walking their dogs, golf, hiking, and even a maple syrup festival held every year from March to April, where you can enjoy wagon rides, syrup-collecting demonstrations, and yes, pancakes with real maple syrup.

Finally, the Whitchurch-Stouffville Museum & Community Centre is a very charming look into the town’s past, featuring a Victorian Farmhouse, the Bogarttown Schoolhouse, and more buildings showcasing how life was in the area.
